Firefighters' Open House a Success

To mark October as Fire Prevention Month, the Murrieta Fire Department held its annual open house Saturday at Murrieta Fire Station No. 2.

Some 300 Murrieta residents were in attendance to tour the firehouse, learn how to use fire extinguishers and meet some of the firefighters who work in the community.

“We normally only see members in the community when they are sick or need help, Murrieta fire Chief Matt Shobert said.

“We wanted to invite them out to rub elbows with us; we are their neighbors too.”

Resident Brian Nesbitt brought his three young children to the event.

“My son always waves at the fire trucks when they go by, it’s nice (for him) to meet and interact with them up close."

Mayor Doug McAllister stopped by and demonstrated proper use of a fire extinguisher.

“Events like these are not only good for the community, but learning fire safety saves lives, property and money.
