Early-Morning French Valley Crash Sends 1 to Hospital

A driver who plowed into a utility pole early Wednesday on Winchester Road near the French Valley Airport was transported to an area hospital, authorities said.

A vehicle plowed into a utility pole just south of French Valley Airport today, injuring the driver.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on Winchester Road, just north of Technology Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorist, whose identity was not released, had to be extricated from the wreckage, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. He was transported to a southwest county hospital for treatment of moderate to major injuries.

Southern California Edison workers were expected to complete repairs to the pole —which was cracked, but did not topple over—later today, according to the CHP. Electricity to the area was not disrupted.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
