Dump Truck Spills Fuel After Blowout on I-215

About 100 gallons of diesel fuel were spilled near the southbound Interstate 215 offramp to Murrieta Hot Springs Road.

UPDATE 6 p.m.: The driver of a big rig towing two empty bottom dumps near the Interstate 215 offramp to Murrieta Hot Springs Road early Friday made an unsafe turning movement, causing the crash, according to a CHP spokesperson.

"During the [solo vehicle] collision one of the fuel tanks was ruptured and 100 gallons of diesel was spilled onto the dirt, which required a hazardous materials team to clean up the spill," said CHP Temecula Area Officer Nathan Baer.

There were no injuries and no arrests, Baer said.

The truck ended up in a dirt lot above in Murrieta.

The spill was cleaned up by early Friday afternoon.

A dump truck blew a tire, crashed and spilled fuel early Friday in Murrieta.

The crash occurred at 4:25 a.m. on the southbound Interstate 215 offramp to Murrieta Hot Springs Road, according to California Highway Patrol. The truck landed in dirt area just before the ramp.

"There were no injuries and no other vehicles were involved. The truck landed upright," said Matt Corelli, spokesperson for the Murrieta Fire Department.

However, about 100 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled, Corelli said. Engine crew No. 3 responded and found that the fuel spilled into soil, he said.

The fuel was spilled near a waterway, but was isolated to the dirt area, he said.

Caltrans was called out to take care of the clean up, according to Shelli Lombardo, spokesperson for Caltrans District 8.

No lanes were closed, according to Lomardo, who said there was no time estimate on the completion of the cleanup, but that crews hoping to finish it before the evening commute hours, before 3 p.m.

According to CHP, no traffic was being affected as of the last update at 8:26 a.m.
