Dog Killed in Pot Dispensary Raid

It lunged at a deputy, forcing him to shoot it to death, a sheriff’s official said.

A dog was shot to death during a raid on a medical marijuana dispensary, and deputies were looking for its owner today.

A search warrant was served at 6:36 p.m. Wednesday at Closed Circuit Collective, 27491 Jefferson Ave., while the shop was open, according to sheriff’s officials.

The dog lunged at a deputy when he went in, and he reacted by fatally shooting it, said sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin McDonald.

“It’s a shame. You have a dog that’s just doing what dogs do – defending its territory – and a deputy doing what he has to do,” the sergeant said today.

The animal was a Spanish Mastiff, and it weighed about 125 pounds, he said.

The sheriff's department went into the dispensary to gather evidence of an assault that happened there on May 22.

A 50-year-old Canyon Lake man went in to buy marijuana and got into an argument with somebody. The fight escalated, and the suspect hit the man with a baseball bat, according to the sheriff’s department.

Investigators found evidence of the assault – including dried blood – and confiscated a bat, a “large amount” of marijuana and paraphernalia used in drug sales, McDonald said.

The Temecula Police Department’s Special Investigation’s Unit was looking into the legality of the operation today.

“Our opinion right now is it’s illegal, what they’re doing there,” McDonald said, but the investigation is not over, and the finding could change.

Deputies detained six customers and employees, questioned them and let them go. None gave useful information about the assault, the sergeant said.

Investigators were looking for Beau Attride, the owner of the dispensary, for questioning. So far, law enforcement was unable to contact him, according to McDonald.

Anybody with information on this case was encouraged to call the Temecula Police Department at 951-696-3000.

Here is an even bigger picture. If the City had knowledge of this place operating illegaly and did nothing prior to the man from Canyon Lake getting beat with a bat. Doesn't that make the City liable, in part, for his injuries.

I agree with Stevo and Angela, I have played with that dog myself, I know what is name was which I will not disclose, he follows voice commands to a T. With all of the employees on the premises why didn't the Cops, allow the employees to remove the dog themselves or wait for animal control or even as Angela mentioned, Taze or mase the dog. This is cruel on behalf of the cops and any of you people that call yourselves "humans" you are not "humane" to think that the dog didn't feel any of this. Chris you probably are "one of Temecula's finest" (Sarcastically of course) "ticket giver" or a wanna be. Either way your a terrible person.

Deadliest dog on the planet? Please... Any powerful breed is dangerous in the wrong hands, but can be the BEST DOGS in the right hands... This just has to do with Beau's selfishness and irresponsibility.. The dog shouldn't have been there, period. That dog greeted many, many patients in a friendly way.. Actually, I doubt that there is even ONE person that met that dog and had the chance to interact with it that DIDN'T FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM.

Because he shouldn't have been there! Especially not with a bunch of NOBODYS that the dog doesn't even respect or follow commands from... Or he should have been restrained, then there would have been no need to shoot him.. Didn't they use flash grenades? I cant even imagine how scary that was.. RIP to one of the best dogs I've ever been lucky enough to know.
