Car Rear-Ended on 215 When Driver Looks Away

The 68-year-old female driver said she glanced at flashing construction lights on the other side of the freeway, and realized too late that cars in front of her had slowed.

An crash occurred on northbound Interstate 215 in Murrieta late Friday when a 68-year-old Sun City woman said she took her eyes off the road.

The crash was reported at 11:14 p.m. near the Clinton Keith Road offramp.

The driver, who identified herself to Patch as Nellie Rose, said she glanced at flashing construction lights on the opposite side of the freeway. She realized too late that traffic in front of her had slowed considerably, she told Patch.

The Toyota Tacoma she was driving slammed into a red Toyota Camry in front of her.

"I am just thankful that no one was injured except my pocketbook," Rose said.

California Highway Patrol officer J.E. Sandoval said the accident was still under investiagtion as to whose fault it was.

"Nobody was injured; that is our main focus," Sandoval said.

Traffic backed up on northbound Interstate 215 as the accident was cleared and both cars were towed.
