Christmas Day Sheriff's Radio Glitch Has Minimal Effects

There were limited service delays Wednesday when the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department experienced technical problems with its radio system, an official said.

At 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, glitches began affecting the radio system for the west county area,  according to sheriff’s Deputy Albert Martinez.

“During this incident, we immediately switched to a back-up system which allowed radio service to continue with minimal effects to patrol operations,” Martinez said. “...Technicians immediately began working on correcting the issue. Non-priority calls had limited delay and all calls for service were handled.”

By 4 p.m. Wednesday, the system was back to normal operation.

The widespread technical issue followed an initial glitch at about 3:10 a.m. Wednesday that affected deputies from the Hemet sheriff’s station. That problem had been fixed within minutes, with no effect on patrol operations, according to Martinez.
