CHP Plans Checkpoint Saturday

California Highway Patrol plans to conduct a sobriety/driver's license checkpoint Saturday in unincorporated southwest Riverside County, as one scheduled for St. Patrick's Day was canceled due to inclement weather.

The checkpoint will take place at an undisclosed location, according to a news release. Motorists approaching it will see signs advising them a checkpoint is ahead, said Officer Nathan Baer, CHP spokesperson for the Temecula area.

Drivers will be diverted into one lane momentarily as they are contacted by an officer, who will explain the checkpoint and ask for their driver's license, Baer said. 

CHP sobriety checkpoints are conducted in accordance with the guidelines for checkpoint operations outlined in the California Supreme Court decision, Ingersoll vs. Palmer, Baer said.

Traffic volume permitting, CHP plans to check all drivers, he said.

"The CHP reminds motorists to not drink and drive," Baer said. "If you are going to drink, do it responsibly. Designate a sober driver."
