Check Fraud Suspect Wanted

Checks belonging to a Torrance resident were written at Burlington Coat Factory and Walmart, according to Murrieta police.

A woman is wanted in connection with allegedly writing at least three fraudulent checks at Murrieta establishments.

Checks belonging to a Torrance resident were written at and Walmart, according to Murrieta police.

The checks were allegedly signed by a suspect using the alias of Janice Nichols, according to a flier posted on the Murrieta Police Department website.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic female between 40 and 50 years old with long brown hair and wearing prescription glasses. She was driving a white or light-colored SUV, according to police.

Investigators released surveillance photos of the suspect in hopes of identifying her.

The first photo was taken at about 7 p.m. Dec. 21, 2011, at Burlington Coat Factory, 39835 Alta Murrieta Drive.

Checks were also allegedly fraudulently written at about 2 p.m. on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5 at .

Anyone with information regarding the identity of this suspect was asked to contact Sgt. Phil Gomez at 951-461‐6356.
