Check Forgery Suspect Sought

Murrieta police seek to locate a man who allegedly signed and cashed a more than $2,000 check that was reported stolen from a Hemet mailbox.

Murrieta police have released surveillance photos of a man suspected of forging a signature on a more than $2,000 check, then cashing it a Murrieta bank.

The man successfully cashed the check Nov. 14 at , 25220 Hancock Ave., Murrieta.

He allegedly presented the teller with a check in the amount of $2077.96, using a driver’s license under the name of Ryan Berson, said Murrieta police Sgt. Phil Gomez, in a flier posted on the police department website.

"Although the teller stated she noticed the driver’s license was not consistent with the California Driver’s license photographs she went ahead and cashed the check," Gomez said.

"The check turned out to have been stolen from the victim’s mailbox located in Hemet."

The suspect was described as a white male in his late 20s, 5 feet 5 inches tall weighing 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes and wearing a gray and black plaid jacket and black Oakland Raiders shirt.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect was asked to contact Murrieta police Investigations Sgt. Phil Gomez at 951-461‐6356.
