Car Catches Fire on I-15 in Murrieta

The car fire was reported at about 2:30 p.m. on northbound Interstate 15, past California Oaks Road.

A car fire on Interstate 15 in Murrieta spread to nearby brush but was quickly put out, authorities said.

The car caught on fire at about 2:30 p.m. on northbound Interstate 15 just past California Oaks Road and Nutmeg, Murrieta fire Chief Matt Shobert confirmed.

"We did have a vehicle fully involved in flames on the Interstate," Shobert said. "It did extend into the brush."

Shobert said two Murrieta fire crews were successful in putting out the car fire along with the flames that were beginning to spread.

He said initial reports were that there may have been people in the car, but firefighters were able to confirm everyone was out of the car safely.
