Burglars Using Breaker Boxes to See if Anyone’s Home

Murrieta police are advising residents about a recent crime trend targeting firearms.

The Murrieta Police Department is warning residents about a recent string of burglaries involving suspects turning off power to homes to see if anyone is inside.

Police have received several calls about residential burglaries targeting firearms, with the suspects accessing an outdoor breaker box and shutting off power. If nobody comes out to investigate, the burglars break into the home and steal valuables, especially firearms, as they ransack the residence.

The police department is reminding gun owners to keep their firearms well secured.
