UPDATE: Man to be Charged in Murrieta Triple Stabbing

UPDATE 10 a.m. Dec. 28: The arraignment for William Gary Simpson Jr. will now take place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday instead of today, according to a DA news release.

UPDATE 11 a.m. Dec. 27: Murrieta stabbing suspect William Gary Simpson Jr. is set to be arraigned on murder and attempted murder charges at 1:30 p.m Wednesday, the Riverside County District Attorney's Office announced today.

Detectives determined that the suspect in the Dec. 20 stabbings and murder in Milkwood Lane home was Simpson, who the Burke family had allowed to live at the home for several months in 2010, said John Hall, DA spokesperson.

The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office has filed one count of murder, with a special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a burglary, and two counts of attempted murder against Simpson, Hall said.

"The special circumstance allegation makes Simpson eligible for the death penalty," Hall said. "A decision whether to seek death will be made by District Attorney Paul Zellerbach at a later date. If death is not sought, Simpson would face a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, if convicted as now charged."

Simpson was tracked to and arrested at his mother’s Hesperia home by Murrieta police detectives and members of the Pacific Regional Fugitive Task Force, which is composed of personnel from the U.S. Marshal’s Office, the Riverside County District Attorney's Office and the state Division of Parole Operations.

William Gary Simpson Jr., 19, was arrested at his mother's home in Hesperia late Friday after a

, then stabbed her 47-year-old father and a 17-year-old boyfriend who were also in the house on Milkwood Lane in Murrieta.

Simpson was expected to be arraigned within 48 business hours of his arrest, according to John Hall, spokesperson for the Riverside County District Attorney's Office.

Court records show Simpson will be charged with murder and attempted murder.

He was being held today on no bail at Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta, sheriff's jail records showed.
