Authorities Seek Driver in Crash that Killed Temecula Couple

The driver of a 1997 Chrysler Sebring was seen fleeing the scene of a crash late Friday that killed a Temecula couple.

Authorities are seeking the public's help in locating the driver of a 1997 Chrysler Sebring involved in a crash in Temecula Wine Country that killed a Temecula couple.

The head-on collision occurred around 11:50 p.m. Friday on Glenoaks Road, just west of Bella Vista Road, in the Rancho California community, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Carlos Castro, 52, and his wife, Laurie, 50, were eastbound on Glenoaks in their 2004 Honda Civic when a 1997 Chrysler Sebring coming from the opposite direction drifted into their lane, said CHP Officer Ron Thatcher.

Carlos Castro had no time to react, and the cars collided, Thatcher said. The couple was killed on impact.

"After the collision, the driver of the Chrysler exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot,'' Thatcher said. "He was seen fleeing eastbound on Glenoaks Road. An open container of alcohol was located within the vehicle and may have been a factor in the collision.''
