Authorities ID Cyclist Found Dead on Trail

An investigation continues into the death of Lee Andrew Tichenor, 60, of Temecula, who was found unconscious and unresponsive Sunday morning on a bike trail west of Murrieta.

Authorities released the name Monday of a deceased bicyclist on a bike trail in La Cresta west of Murrieta.

Lee Andrew Tichenor, 60, of Temecula, was pronounced dead at 8:56 a.m. Sunday on the Stevenson Canyon bike trail, near the Sylvan Meadows multiuse trail on the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve.

"Medical personnel arrived on scene and observed two male bicyclists attempting to resuscitate a 60-year-old male bicyclist," said sheriff's Sgt. Ken Chaffin, in a report. "Efforts to revive the subject were unsuccessful. The male subject was pronounced deceased at the scene."

Crews from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department responded to the initial call for medical aid. Two helicopters--one from Mercy Air--were utilized to reach the spot where Tichenor lay, according to a report.

Tichenor was found about a mile and a half in on the remote trail.

The coroner's office did not list a cause of death. An according to Chaffin.

Anyone with information was encouraged to contact Detective Michael Callahan at the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's station by calling 951-245-3300.

An Internet search revealed Tichenor was credited with a recent U.S. patent along with four others. The project was commissioned by Rohr aeronautical company in Chula Vista.
