Alleged Rapist Gets 2-Year Prison Stretch

Bryan Tangas, who was facing trial for raping a woman he knew, then leading authorities on a 100-mile chase to Barstow, was handed a two-year prison term after pleading guilty to lesser charges.

A man who faced trial for allegedly raping a woman with whom he was acquainted -- leading law enforcement authorities on a 100-miles chase into Barstow -- was sentenced to a two-year prison stretch Friday.

Bryan Mayo Tangas, 23, pleaded guilty just as his trial was set to begin July 3, a jury pool having already been assembled and voir dire (speak the truth) about to start.

Tangas, who had been facing a 10-year prison term if convicted, pleaded to a single felony count each of showing a disregard for safety and threatening or dissuading a victim or witness from testifying.

The plea agreement called for a maximum two-year term, according to court records.

Tangas must also attend a substance abuse program while in prison, pay court costs and restitution.

He must also submit saliva and blood for the DNA felon data bank.

Lori, I agree...easy to judge without knowing the facts. Through the year's have seem the system fail too many times to mention. Here is a fact for anyone with a son...all a young woman has to say is she was raped and the young man/man automatically goes to jail, and then has to prove he is innocent. So I hope your son's are never on the other side of this, and do not think for one second it will never happen to you or your family.
