A man suspected of jacking a car at knifepoint in Chula Vista was arrested by
The 36-year-old man, whose name was unavailable today, was spotted around 9:40 p.m. Sunday driving through the Interstate 15 checkpoint toward Temecula in a 2009 Toyota Corolla.
The driver was acting strange, said Agent Michael Jimenez. "During inspection, agents became suspicious of the man's nervous demeanor and referred him for a secondary inspection," he said.
Their suspicions deepened when they spotted a knife handle partially jutting from a hiding place, he said. "While agents questioned the man, they noticed the handle of a knife protruding from between the driver's seat and the center console," the agent said.
The Border Patrol conducted a records check on the car and found out it was reported stolen only a few hours earlier. Agents took the man into custody, impounded the vehicle and turned it over to the Chula Vista Police Department,
