2 Caught in Alleged Early Morning Car Burglaries

Murrieta police said seven victims had property missing from cars that were parked in the Old School House gated community.

Two suspected burglars were caught early Wednesday after allegedly breaking into seven vehicles in a gated Murrieta community, police confirmed today.

Murrieta police received a report at about 6:05 a.m. Wednesday that a vehicle burglary was in progress in the area of Chambray Drive and Lawrence Union, in the Old School House community.

While units were en route to the call, they were advised by dispatch that the two suspects had taken off and were headed westbound toward Margarita Road, according to a report from Murrieta police Lt. Tony Conrad.

The two jumped the fence out of the gated community onto Fordham and Margarita. Officers checking near Vanderbilt Avenue and Palisades Drive saw a man walking westbound in front of 39497 Vanderbilt Ave.

The man, who matched the physical and clothing descriptions given, was allegedly carrying a black golf bag, a red backpack and a ladies zebra-striped purse.

He was later identified as Alexander Michael Leroy Lopez, 19, according to sheriff's jail records.

Identification and credit cards were allegedly found in the red backpack that belonged to the victim. Murrieta police dispatchers contacted the victim and confirmed his golf clubs and red backpack were missing from his vehicle, according to the report.

Inside a wallet in a purse was an AAA card allegedly belonging to another victim. Murrieta police dispatch contacted that victim and she confirmed her wallet was missing from her vehicle, according to the report.

Officers later found about seven victims of alleged vehicle burglaries, the report stated.

A second suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was found in the pool area of Princeton Way and Williams Way.

He told officers he and Lopez had planned on going out during the night and stealing items out of vehicles, the report stated.

The 17-year-old was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of numerous counts of theft and possession of stolen property.

Lopez was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of the same charges. He was being held on $5,000 bail as of today.

A note of style to the thief; That zebra striped purse was clashing with the black golf bag.

I hope this POS rolls through this community again. His picture will be posted at all the entrances by tomorrow afternoon along with a trespass notice. Roll through Mr. Lopez and there is a good probability you'll have a bad day. This is the wrong tract to steal from. Mack, it was both tracts on either side of Margarita.

Basically if you are out at dark walking anyone's streets lately you will be met with force, so don't go there boys. Also as all pictures posted so far are of hispanic's I DEFINATELY would not be out after dark unless you are walking your abuelita. No, I am not racist, if it was white kids, asian, or black I would say the same exact thing. Just all of the burgarlies, robberies of cars and houses have been hispanics in the past several months that are apprehended.

Don't refer to him as Mr. Lopez, his last name is LeRoy. Lopez is the name he gave police officers when he was apprehended. It's hard to believe that name even made print. It's funny how many of you focus the name Lopez and the Hispanic race. My last name is Lopez and I have been serving this country for the last 18 years. I am a bad guy too because I am hispanic or because my last name is Lopez? Brenda, sorry to break the news to you sweet heart but you ARE by definition racist. NOTE: The belief that race accounts for differences in human character. Also it would just be plain STUPID to say white, black or Asian kids are walking their abuelita. That is EXACTLY what you wrote right Brenda? that one sounds a little on the racist side as well. No one wants thiefs in our communities black, white, brown, or yellow. We all work too hard to have people with poor character taking property that doesn't belong to them but why it has to become a color thing is just sad. The second last name used sounds like a pretty white name anyway. Every day when I wake up and go to work it is a joy to know I am protecting judgemental people like you, that would quicker look down on me because my skin is brown than say "good morning" , thanks Brenda.

After a futher searching key word "Burglaries" I found that we have a pretty good mix of races when it comes to who commits crimes in our coumunity. Futhermore, take a look at some of the police officers names in those stories. ( some of them sound pretty Hispanic. So be I would advise you to be careful when using phrases such as "Just all of the burgarlies, robberies of cars and houses have been hispanics in the past several months" All is a strong word.
