11-Year-Old Moreno Valley Boy Collapses Playing Football, Dies

Elijah Allen, who suffered from an unspecified medical condition, collapsed Tuesday while playing football at Vista Heights Middle School in Moreno Valley, authorities said.

Authorities today released the name of an 11-year-old boy who collapsed while playing football at his middle school in Moreno Valley and later died at a hospital.

Elijah Allen died Tuesday shortly after 1 p.m. at Riverside County Regional Medical Center, according to the Riverside County coroner's office.

Deputies responded at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday to Vista Heights Middle School in the 2300 block of Old Lake Drive, where employees were giving the boy CPR, said Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. John Del Valle.

"The investigation determined the juvenile collapsed while playing during lunchtime," he said.

The youth had an unspecified medical condition that may have contributed to his death, Del Valle said.
