Norma Becerra, 28, has been identified by authorities as the victim in a fatal rollover crash Thursday morning east of Temecula.
At about 9:20 a.m., the Aguanga resident was traveling westbound on Wilson Valley Road at Thomas Road, driving at an estimated 50 or 55 mph when for an unknown reason she allowed her 2002 white Ford Escape to veer off the road in a northwesterly direction, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol Temecula Area office.
“The vehicle traveled up a small embankment which sent the vehicle airborne. V-1 overturned and collided with the roadway,” wrote the reporting CHP officer.
Becerra was reportedly not properly buckled-in to her seatbelt, causing her to be ejected from the SUV as it overturned.
The Escape landed on its wheels in a northeasterly direction on the south shoulder and eastbound lane. Authorities discovered the fatally-injured woman lying nearby on the same side of the road. The 28-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene, at 10:02 a.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.
The roadway—midway between Sage Road and Highway 371—was closed for at least three hours as the crash was investigated.
The wreck was initially reported as fatal by CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department, whose crews responded to the emergency.
