Get Your All-You-Can-Eat Sushi On

The best deal in town on all-you-can-eat sushi right now is at  in French Valley.

A lunch buffet is $16.95, and dinner costs $18.95.

The atmosphere is great, though when I went it was very quiet, despite being around 7:30 p.m.

The place has a modern feel with four plasma screens mounted on the walls and some kind of laser device shining points of light all over the places. Pop dance music thumps quietly in the background.

It’s pretty small, with only three small tables, three eight-seater tables and 16 seats at the bar. Because of those long tables, it would make a good place to bring a big group though.

The sushi was as good as most other sushi restaurants you’ll find in town.

The “pizza” was a California roll cut into four pieces turned on their sides with baked fish on top. It was good, but a little heavy on the mayo for my taste.

Another heavy mayo dish was the scallop roll, which was served similarly, but with excellent cooked scallops on top.

The salmon skin hand roll was something I rarely see on all-you-can-eat menus. The deep-fried skin was crunchy and surprisingly had no fish-like taste. It was wrapped in rice in a cone-shaped roll.

The Cajun tuna roll was served handroll-style, but cut, turned on their sides and lightly dusted with Cayenne pepper, giving it less spice than the way other places serve it.

At the  on Jefferson Avenue, for example, the chef dusts it on heavily, which taste good, but rather spicy.

I never tried sea urchin before, so I gave a roll a try. I wouldn’t recommend it. It was a flavorless glob of slime, though that’s no fault of the restaurant. I blame the urchin.

Surf clam is another item I rarely see on all-you-can-eat menus, and it was simple and great; I recommend that.

Though the atmosphere doesn’t say “family gathering” to me, it would be perfect for a group of eight friends, thanks to the tables. It might be nice for a date if you’re not looking for anything too romantic, and for $16.95 for lunch, it’s a must-try.
