5 Things To Know In Murrieta Today: Sept. 29

Take advantage of several outdoor events, but remember to stay hydrated in the warm weather!

1. It will be a warm Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Today is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 97. Tonight, expect partly cloudy skies and a low around 63.

2. Watch for cyclists as the Temecula Valley Century ride gets underway at 7 a.m. at Murrieta's Town Square Park. Hundreds of cyclists will venture out on scenic rides of the Temecula Valley, and return to Town Square to take part in a Health Expo and Fair. To read more, click here.

3. The Murrieta Youth Soccer League and Murrieta Surf Soccer Club are presenting the Murrieta Fall Extravaganza today beginning at 11 a.m. at Los Alamos Hills Sports Park, 36700 Ruth Ellen Way. This is a community-wide event to bring families and individuals together for a day of fun, food and entertainment. The event shall include: MLS Soccer LA Galaxy Crew, Futboleros, music, food, games and booths.

4. Bring your unused or expired prescription drugs to the Murrieta Police Department front lobby during its Prescription Drug Take-Back Day today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2 Town Square. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards. The event is being held in conjuction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

5. Across from the Police Department, in the Murrieta City Hall parking lot, the Riverside County Waste Management is holding a household hazardous waste collection from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Click here to see which items are being accepted.

BONUS TIP: The public is invited to Hawk Ranch, 42149 Elm St., for National Alpaca Farm Days. People are invited to visit the farm to meet the friendly, fluffy alpacas and learn about the alpaca industry in the United States and Canada. National Alpaca Farm Day is the one time of year when alpaca ranches from all over the U.S. open their gates and welcome the public. The Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association hosts a yearly event to help educate the public and inform potential alpaca owners of the alpaca lifestyle and Hawk Ranch, new to the alpaca world, is participating in this event. This event is free and open to anyone wanting to visit the alpacas and learn about them. Refreshments will be served; a good time for both young and old. The event begins at 10 a.m.
