5 Things to Know in Murrieta: Feb. 27

The second annual Military Education Expo will be held today beginning at 6 p.m. tonight.

1. Frost is likely before 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Otherwise, expect sunny skies today with a high near 72. Tonight, expect mostly clear skies and a low near 35.

2. The second annual Military Education Expo will be held today beginning at 6 p.m. tonight at the Murrieta Mesa High School Performing Arts Center, 24801 Monroe Ave. All military families from throughout Southwest Riverside County are invited to attend this free expo where they will learn who to turn to for help. The event is sponsored by the Murrieta Valley Unified School District’s Military Support Advisory Committee. Experts will speak of topics that would be of interest to military families, including the cycles of deployment, the availability of free community resources available to military families and how military families can afford to send their children to colleges with the Post 9/11 transferability GI Bill. The panel of presenters will include school liaison officers from the U.S.  Marine Corps, U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. Also attending will be representatives from Family Forces, FOCUS, Exceptional Families Program, Fleet and Family Program, Marine Corps Family Program, Big Brothers and Sisters and the Veterans Administration. Each agency will also have brochures and information available for families to take home.

3. Here's what's for lunch today at elementary schools in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District: orange chicken with rice. Lunches are served with a fresh fruit/salad bar and a choice of juice or milk. Lunches average about 658 calories and 16.29 percent fat. To see middle and high school menus, click here.

4. Get ready for another morning story time at the Murrieta Public Library. Wee Wigglers Story Time, for children ages 3 to 5, begins at 10:10 a.m. At 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. there is Mother Goose and Me, an on-the-lap story time designed for infants to 3-year-olds.

5. Make tonight a family night out at Big Cheese Pizza, where every Wednesday night kids eat free. Between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., those ages 10 and under eat free with an adult meal purchase. Big Cheese Pizza is at 41080 California Oaks Road.
