5 Things to Know in Murrieta: Aug. 7

Murrieta City Council is holding a public hearing regarding a paramedic fee/emergency medical response subscription program for residents.

1. Temperatures will reach triple digits again today and it will only get hotter throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service. Today is expected to be sunny with a high near 105 degrees. Tonight, expect partly cloudy skies with a low around 67.

REMINDER: Beat the heat by staying indoors and avoiding exercise or outdoor activities in the middle of the day. Wear loose fitting clothing, shield yourself from the sun and wear sunscreen.  For those who need to cool down, the  at 41717 Juniper Street is a designated cool center for Murrieta. 

2. The is hosting its family-friendly "National Night Out" event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at . This free event—celebrated nationally by law enforcement agencies—encouraging residents to get to know their local public safety officials and learn more about neighborhood safety and crime prevention. The Murrieta Police Department is collaborating directly with local Target stores in coordinating the event. 3. After visiting the Police Department's "National Night Out" at 6 p.m., Murrieta city council will convene its regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. The agenda includes a public hearing on enacting a $350 fee per emergency medical response by the Murrieta Fire Department. The fee would apply to residents who do not pay an annual paramedic subscription of $48. See the complete agenda by visiting the city website.

4. School offices in Murrieta Valley Unified reopen today with the exception of Lisa J. Mails Elementary and Dorothy McElhinney Middle School, which will reopen to the public on Aug. 15th. For more information, click here.

5. Stay cool and head to Edwards Cinemas in Temecula where they are hosting Summer Movie Express. Select showings of G or PG-rated movies are only $1. Beginning at 10 a.m., every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, choose between two different movies each week. This week decide between  “Chimpanzee” (G) or “Hoodwinked Too” (PG).
