Hotel Shooting Update: Baby Was in Room When Woman Fatally Shot Man

Sheriff's officials say the baby's mother shot and killed the father of her child at Pechanga Resort & Casino this weekend.

A Los Angeles man who was shot inside a hotel room at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula and died was identified Monday by the Riverside County Coroner's Office as Los Angeles resident Keith Rodman.

Rodman and the suspect, 32-year-old Wildomar resident Maria Vihanek, were in a dating relationship and had a six-month-old baby together, the sheriff's department announced Monday.

The baby was in the hotel room where Rodman was shot on Friday, but was not injured.

Vihanek will be arrested after being treated for a self-inflicted injury, authorities said.

Rodman was shot an undisclosed number of times and was able to make his way to the giant resort casino's lobby, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Mike Manning said.

Sheriff's dispatchers received a 911 call at 10:56 p.m. Friday about a bloodied man in the lobby. They also discovered Vihanek in the hotel room the shooting occurred.   Rodman was taken to Temecula Valley Hospital, where he died early Saturday, the Riverside County Coroner's Office reported.

Casino spokeswoman Ciara Green couldn't recall the last time a shooting occurred there.

The casino continued its operations Friday night while sheriff's detectives conducted their investigation in the lobby area and hotel room, Green said.

does ANYONE ever sent to our area hospitals with a serious injury EVER LIVE? Just seems like trauma is not their thing.
Susan Down February 25, 2014 at 12:56 PM
I'm telling you, Pechanga has some bad ju-ju. I don't gamble, but every time I go there for dinner or a concert, something bad happens.
Darla February 25, 2014 at 12:57 PM
My daughters work there and were on shift that evening. It would have been a miracle for him to survive his injuries. He is lucky he made it to the lobby.
ChrisG February 25, 2014 at 01:01 PM
@susan, did you ever consider it may be you with the bad 'ju-ju' and not the casino? Please do everyone a favor and stop going...... :)
Dee February 25, 2014 at 03:18 PM
I'm glad the baby is ok. I hope the woman can recover from this tragedy.
CB February 25, 2014 at 08:12 PM
Im not hoping the woman recovers from anything. She killed her child's father RIGHT in front of her child. Great job mom, just made your baby an orphan.
Mad Arsenal February 25, 2014 at 09:27 PM
Maybe she felt threatened and used the weapon in self defense? Armed women are the answer to abusive men.
Dee February 25, 2014 at 09:37 PM
Mad, yep, you're right. What makes a woman THAT angry is the systematic physical abuse. Most just sit and cry...until we had enough, then watch out big and tough guy. I'm rooting for the woman. I pray that help is offered to her. Women are a lot tougher than she appears.
Mad Arsenal February 25, 2014 at 09:39 PM
Women are tough. I wish they all had 38's in their purses. Maybe President Obama can protect women and give free guns
Alek J Hidell February 25, 2014 at 11:43 PM
Squeaky Fromme and Sarah Jane Moore both "had .38's in their purses". Google if you can't remember them. Arsenal has outdone him/herself this time. What a moronic thing to say.....
CB February 26, 2014 at 12:27 AM
She shot him several times. Thats what makes me think it wasnt a dispute. Oh..and if the emt or paramedic who answered this call by chance reads this, you're a POS for not only taking pictures, but posting the pictures on instagram. I hope that no person as unprofessional and downright disrespectful like that ever treats one of my loved ones.
CB February 26, 2014 at 12:28 AM
I mean domestic violence when i say dispute
ChrisG February 26, 2014 at 12:46 AM
@dee, I'm sure she added nothing to the relationship, right? Totally innocent bystander? Get a grip!
Dee February 26, 2014 at 01:19 AM
Chris, no we don't know anything about this relationship. All we know is a man is dead. I wonder though if it was because he was a nice guy.
Dee February 26, 2014 at 01:21 AM
President Obama will never protect women. He indirectly kills them in the womb or by late term abortions. He doesn't even respect his own wife.
ChrisG February 26, 2014 at 01:24 AM
@dee, if you were a mother you would know, you would kill someone threatening you or your children but you would never hurt yourself in front of your own child. She's a crazy loon. Most likely screwed up on drugs herself. If you can't see that I pray for any children of your own. I'll say again, get a grip!
Dee February 26, 2014 at 01:26 AM
That's assuming the guy didn't do anything in front of his children to their mother
Steve Newman February 26, 2014 at 12:07 PM
vwds- back on the hospital bashing again. Hope you never need to go to one-you would rather drive an hour for help- insuring the death of an injured person.
Darla February 28, 2014 at 02:43 PM
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned... So I hear...
Dee February 28, 2014 at 03:10 PM
Darla, read the twelve of never.. The Betty Broderick trial in San Diego. It was GOOD,!
Alek J Hidell February 28, 2014 at 03:19 PM
I am duly reminded to back way the hell off on my daily scorning....
Dee February 28, 2014 at 06:33 PM
No, don't. Your dry wit and obnoxious attitude is really entertaining.
Steve Newman March 01, 2014 at 01:52 AM
Dee- isn't that half wit- for Alek Hidell his other name to fame.
Sierra Mist March 01, 2014 at 03:13 AM
I agree with V.W.D.S. Non of these hospitals that are connected to southwest could ever save someone. If it ever happened then that would be a very amazing news story. I have never seen any news about the hospitals around here ever saving someone after some traumatic event. A person would be lucky to have their life after being in these hospitals, even if it there was no trauma.
Steve Newman March 01, 2014 at 03:54 PM
Sierra- there are plenty of people who have gone to the hospitals you mentioned and come out alive- I for one. You paint with a broad brush-again. And the victim was shot several times- not a good omen for survival. I know you got fired from southwest-but don't fog over everybody's thoughts with your own bigotry.
Dee March 01, 2014 at 10:07 PM
Steve, you seem to know about people's backgrounds. What have you found in mine? You can post it, but don't show anybody!
Steve Newman March 02, 2014 at 03:40 PM
Dee- I don't know about other peoples backgrounds as a habit-I just know some of the players on here who like to change there names and try to confuse people. But you can see by their rhetoric they are the same person. I have not found nor do I intend to look into your background. Also telling me to post it but not tell anybody is kind of- well not possible.
Dee March 02, 2014 at 03:56 PM
Well, then you have a great memory. I was attempting to be funny about the posting. Enjoy the rain!!! I love it!!!!
Steve Newman March 02, 2014 at 05:09 PM
OK then - I just take really good notes when needed
Judy Nickles March 06, 2014 at 12:16 AM
