The following is an e-mailed statement to Patch from Murrieta Firefighter Paramedic Brandon Roach at Fire Station No. 2:

“As for today being 9/11 it is one of the greatest tragedies our country has ever seen and by far the greatest tragedy to ever strike the Fire Service... I can remember sitting in Freshman Foundations in high school and our teacher turning on the TV and telling us that day may be one of the most important and memorable days in history.  Although I was not yet a fireman I still feel to this day that I lost 343 brothers when those towers collapsed.  9/11 is not the reason I became a fireman, but I feel honored to follow in all of their shoes.  It is and always will be an extremely emotional day for the Fire Service.

I have worked in Murrieta as a Firefighter Paramedic for almost 4 years now and every year this community comes together to show appreciation for all of the public service.  On this day our stations are full of the public coming by to talk, appreciate, thank and sometimes just offer up a handshake or hug for all of us on duty.  This morning the Camden Staff stopped by with a giant thank you banner signed by all, a few big red white and blue balloons and an American Flag cake.  All of that is greatly appreciated and the cake will not go to waste! We felt it was only right to hang the banner on the front of the station with the balloons to show our appreciation!

Thank you to all of the 343 for giving the ultimate sacrifice! This country will never forget you or the heroic acts you performed that day!”
