Ruminations: Food For Thought

I subscribe to the Writer's Market (on-line version) wherein a bazillion publications and their respective editors specify the parameters of the article, payment, rights and contract and the like. For example: I've written fire service articles for many years. Innumerable publications have always beckoned. I've used pseudonyms (pen names), tailoring the piece to the demographics of the audience, for example: Lynda StarWriter; J.T. Spanner; Tyler Keyes; Lapiz Lazuli.
Right this very minute, I'm fooling around with the Patch tools for the blog. Very cool. Previously, I'd cut the text from a Word document and paste it -- so I can keep a record for my files. I just noticed format capability and tips (keep it punchy).  Will do. I digress.
Back to writing.  Folks ask me where I obtain topics. As I mentioned, the Writers Market is the BIBLE for freelancers, aspiring novelists, screenwriters and the like. It's kind of like looking for a new home on Zillow or on the Multiple Listing Service. The magazine editors, agents, trade journals specify what they desire, ie; 2,000-word feature article with photos. Pays on acceptance or on publication, either a flat fee, per word, or via agreement. Query (render your sales pitch) first.
I obtain topical ideas from the editorial calendar, from bee-boppin' around town, listening in public places and listening to my clients. It depends on what I'm composing. Like this blog. I feel as though I'm sharing with Murrieta peeps.
I can't upload the photo to my profile; a technical kink that'll work out eventually.
I'm not sure if this will add to (edit) or detract from the previous submission, but I won't find out if I don't send it.  Have a great weekend, everyone. Enjoy the mild weather.
