Resolutions vs. Promises

What is a resolution versus a promise?

Resolution by definition is: to come to a definite or earnest decision about; determine (to do something): I have resolved that I shall live to the full.

Another definition is:  to separate into constituent or elementary parts; break up; cause or disintegrate to separate into constituent or elementary parts; break up; cause or disintegrate.

It's the second one that I love. "Break up or disintegrate." I read a fellow bloggers post about "promises" she made throughout the year.  She decided resolutions were not the way to go.  So she went with promises instead.

Promise: a declaration that something will or will not be done, given, etc., by one: unkept political promises.

She managed to keep most if not all of her promises. I was most impressed by this. And then I was impressed by the thought of promising to do something. My mother raised me that a promise is a promise. If you are not able to do it, don't promise. I have done the same with my own kids. They know if I can't promise I won't. So this year, I am not resolving anything. Instead I am promising.
