A Glimpse of Her Future

Murrieta Mesa's Inaugural Graduation

Friday night my daughter and I attended Murrieta Mesa's Inaugural Graduation.  Why? Well she is a student there for starters. And she has a handful of friends who graduated on Friday. Before we went, I warned her that graduations are long and boring. Nice huh? This graduation was not boring. It was quite the opposite.  In the time before the ceremony began, we got to hear pre-recorded senoir memories. I enjoyed each of them, and was surprised at how many of them mentioned God and Jesus. My daughter got a "shout out" from one of her friends during his recorded message.

The speeches that were given were all brief, yet poignant. School Board President Paul Diffley talked about the great risk taken in the building of this (Mesa) great school. A loan of $56 million, which came ten million under budget and on time.  He also told the students they too took a great risk in coming to the school. A risk that certainly paid off!

Superintendent Stan Scheer had a fabulous analogy that began with a hundred dollar bill. He held up a hundred dollar bill and asked if anyone wanted it. Of course they did, it was a hundred bucks!  Then he crumbled it, and aksed again.  Same response. The point of the exercise, was to show that it never lost its worth, and just like that $100 we also have value and will never lose our worth.

I loved hearing from the kids the best, as my daughter can relate to them the most and she seeing that glimpse into her future. I am not sure if she was as impressed as I was by the numbers of kids moving onto colleges, which were named. Ranging from: Fullerton to BYU to ASU to New York. Many are joining the military. I thank them here and now for the service and sacrifice. One such student received a $400,000 scholarship to the US Naval Academy. Amazing.

All in all, it was neither long or boring and my daughter saw a glimpse of her future and I saw excitement in her eyes and heard it in her voice as we talked on the way home. Congrats to all 352 graduates!!!
