The Constitution Needs to Be Followed by Murrieta City Council

I would like to see a committee organized to determine whether the decisions of the City Council are in harmony with the U.S. Constitution.

The city of Murrieta is a corporation. The residents elect the members of the City Council to represent them. The members of the City Council are required to swear an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.

When they pass rules, regulations, codes and ordinances, the city attorney tells them whether they have violated the Constitution. Since the attorney is paid by the city (the corporation) that would be like asking a wolf to decide on whether it is constitutional to have the sheep for dinner.

As a member of "We the People," I think we need to have a neutral panel of constitutional scholars determine the constitutionality of decisions made by the City Council.

If "We the People" are the masters and the "elected" are the servants, doesn't it make sense that the masters rather than the servants should determine when a law is constitutional and when it is not.

I would like to see a committee organized to judge the constitutionality of the behavior of the City Council. Currently "We the People" are at the mercy of our City Council and have very little power to hold them accountable when they exceed the power and authority granted to them by the Constitution.

Our founding fathers believed in checks and balances as a method of limiting the abuse of power. I think the system is broken and can not be fixed unless the people assume our rightful role as masters and demand that our elected officials return to the role of being the public servants.
