Memorial Day Service Planned at Murrieta Cemetery

News release:

The Murrieta Valley Cemetery District Board of Trustees is honored to host the 14th Annual Memorial Day Service for American Legion Post 852 at the Laurel Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27. The Cemetery is located at 42800 Ivy Street. Refreshments shall be available for your enjoyment at the conclusion of the service.

The American Legion Post will perform the traditional “Post Everlasting” roll call for each veteran, echoed by the ringing of a bell and the call of “No Response.” Roll call will be read aloud by Post Members Ken Patric and Bill Timpano for the each of the approximately 177 veterans currently interred at the Cemetery.  Every veteran will have a white cross and flag placed at their gravesite.

Peter Hamilton, of the Murrieta Valley Funeral Home, has once again graciously donated the presentation wreath for this service.

Keith Larson will play “Taps” again this year.  Mr. Larson is a member of Buglers Across America.  The Murrieta Valley Junior ROTC will be present to assist with the service and Boy Scout Troup 304 will present the colors.

Rick Miles, Master Chief, U.S. Navy will be the guest speaker.

The American Legion Post #852 also encourages members of the public to bring in any flag that is faded, worn or torn and they will retire them with the proper flag disposal protocol. Should you have any questions, please call the Cemetery at 951-677-4223.
