Firefighters Raise Thousands More Than Anticipated in Head Shaving Charity Event

$7,500 was raised in donations from the event with the goal being just $1,500, fire officials said.

The following is a press release from the Murrieta Fire Department:

On March 9, 2014, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm, The Murrieta Fire Department held a charity event for  St. Baldrick’s, a cancer research foundation for children. 

At the event, a licensed hair stylist shaved the heads of willing participants that included Murrieta City Council Member Randon Lane, Murrieta Fire Chief Matt Shobert and Murrieta Police Chief Sean Hadden.

The event was organized with help from the Murrieta Fire department by the Hill Family of Murrieta/Temecula Valley area, whose 9-year-old daughter Samantha Hill is a survivor of liver cancer.
