Nonprofit organizations from throughout southwest Riverside County have joined the Rotary Club of Murrieta in selling flags for the upcoming display at Murrieta's Town Square Park.

The 2013 Murrieta Field of Honor—with its display of 2,013 full-sized American flags—is getting a helping hand in advance sales of the flags from local nonprofit organizations, each of which will earn money from the sales.

Presented by the Rotary Club of Murrieta in partnership with the City of Murrieta, the Murrieta Field of Honor will open in Murrieta’s Town Square Park on Saturday, Nov. 9, and be on display until Saturday, Nov. 16.  The flags may be purchased for $35 and dedicated to personal heroes—military or others, past or present—to fly in the field during the week. At the end of the week, flag sponsors will be able to retrieve their flags. Flags in good condition that have flown in previous years can be re-posted for $10.

In order to spread the word about the opportunity to purchase flags and to help other nonprofit organizations, the Rotary Club has enlisted affiliate organizations.  For each flag sold, the affiliate earns $10.

In the past four years, the affiliates selling flags for the Field of Honor have earned more than $13,000.

“Our Club dedicates proceeds from the Field to the Murrieta Veterans Memorial, the Murrieta Through Time history project and, starting this past year, to scholarships for military dependents,” Bob Bryant, Field of Honor chair, said.  “With the affiliates joining in, we can help them support their projects while increasing the number of flags in the field that are sponsored."
