Free Breast Health Event and $50 Mammograms

Early detection saves lives. Learn about the latest in digital mammography, and about other services available locally to help in the diagnosis and management of breast cancer. The Outpatient Imaging and Women’s Diagnostic Center of Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta, is observing October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, by providing a free educational program and open-house styled event from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2012.

Participants and activities include: Lymphedema Education Class, Michelle’s Place, MRI Breast Biopsy Education, Q&A with radiologist Dr. Alvin Hensel, Susan G. Komen, Pilates Exercise Bands and an instruction class, Healthy Steps Exercise program, Survivor Stories and healthy delicious refreshments.

Though great strides have been made in combatting breast cancer, this year more than 45,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with this devastating disease. An annual mammogram is one of the best defenses against breast cancer. In addition to providing important information about mammography and breast health, the Outpatient Imaging and Women’s Diagnostic Center is providing low cost screening mammograms for the discounted rate of $50 for a period of time. The hope is that this special promotion will help all women, including those who are uninsured or underinsured, to get their annual screening mammogram.

The Breast Health event on Wednesday, October 10, will include informative lectures on mammography, breast biopsy options, lymphedema, along with exercise programs, tours of a state-of-the-art imaging center and refreshments. Additional information will be provided by local breast cancer resource organizations.
