Whiz Kids Care About Cancer Victims

Third-grade twins Morgan and Dakota grew their hair out to donate to Locks of Love.

NAMES: Twin sisters Morgan and Dakota Hirst, age 9

SCHOOL: Third-graders at Cole Canyon Elementary

ACCOMPLISHMENT: On their own, Morgan and Dakota decided they wanted to grow their hair out to donate to Locks of Love, a service that provides wigs for cancer patients. Their grandfather has cancer, so they have an understanding of the side effects of chemotherapy. While visiting a salon for their brother to get a haircut, they asked if their hair was long enough to cut yet. Meanwhile, their mother, Caroll Hirst, had forgotten all about it. Sporting their new "do's" at school, the twins were honored at a recent school assembly and have inspired several of their peers to do the same.

KEY TO AWESOMENESS: Hirst said her daughters have always amazed her with their caring hearts. While in kindergarten, the twins were rewarded with tickets for their good behavior. But instead of holding onto the tickets, they gave them to other children who were sad when their parents left. The family visits Mexico often, and when they do, the twins make sure they take new toys to give to less fortunate children they come across.
