Sheep Spotted Dangerously Close to I-215 Again, Callers Report

Calls starting coming in just before 7 a.m. Wednesday that eight to a dozen sheep were seen alongside the right side of I-215 in the Murrieta-Menifee area.

Some members of a flock of sheep that are kept close to Interstate 215 near Scott Road were reported loose Wednesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol's dispatch log.

Calls began coming in about 7 a.m. Wednesday from motorists who saw eight to a dozen sheep alongside the southbound side of I-215 between Scott and Clinton Keith roads, according to CHP.

"All were on the right side very close to the road," a CHP dispatcher wrote.

The animals may have broken through a fence on the property where they are kept.

When similar incidents occurred in September 2012, a CHP officer advised motorists to "apply the brakes as smoothly as you can and not jerk the wheel left or right.

"If you hit an animal square you may damage your vehicle but you're not going to kill the animal. But if you start jerking wheels that is when something really ugly can happen."
