Relay for Life Returns—Murrieta Style

American Cancer Society Relay for Life this weekend in Murrieta

News release from American Cancer Society:

MURRIETA-
American Cancer Society’s annual 24-hour Relay For Life of Murrieta will be held this weekend, May 18 and May 19 at Town Square Park.

Opening Ceremony is at 9 a.m. on Saturday, with the Survivor Lap immediately following. The Luminaria Ceremony, honoring all who have battled cancer, is at 9 p.m. Saturday. The Fight Back Ceremony, where participants commit to making a difference in the fight against cancer by committing to exercise, eat better, get cancer screenings, or protect their health on other ways, will be at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Many teams are already signed up, but more volunteers are invited from community organizations, churches, businesses and neighborhoods to participate as team captains to help raise funds to fight cancer.

Funds raised at the Relay For Life events provide services to cancer patients and their families, offer more educational programs that will reduce people’s risk of getting cancer, and fund cancer research programs,” said Jana Johnson, volunteer chair for the Relay For Life of Murrieta.

The American Cancer Society is the largest private funder of cancer research, and has funded 46 Nobel Prize-winning scientists over the last 65 years, resulting in dramatic advancements in the fight against cancer including prevention, early detection, treatment, and recovery.

The Society also conducts its own research studies, and is currently enrolling participants in the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) at sites nationwide. Inland Empire residents have the opportunity to volunteer for the CPS-3 now at four locations in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Visit www.cps3inlandempire.org to set up an appointment.
