Record Temps Set Monday in Temecula, Lake Elsinore

Heat wave to end after Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A spell of unseasonably high temperatures in Riverside County will end Tuesday before a cooling trend sets in for the rest of the week, meteorologists said.

The heat wave that began last weekend is being caused by a ridge of high pressure over the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Several record-high temperatures were recorded around the county Monday, including 105 degrees in Elsinore. The previous record high for May 13 in Elsinore was 104 degrees, set in 1927.

A record was also set Monday in Temecula, where the high temperature was 101. The previous hottest May 13 on record was in 2002 when it was 96 degrees, according to NWS.

Highs Tuesday were expected to be 89 in Murrieta, 88 in Temecula, 94 in Lake Elsinore and 91 in Wildomar.
