Rain Storm May Hit Region This Weekend

Showers are expected to roll into the region Friday night and continue through Monday as a cold Pacific storm sweeps east, according to the National Weather Service.

Old Man Winter's last gasp of 2012 may bring several inches of rain to Riverside County next weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, showers are expected to roll into the region Friday night and continue through Monday as a cold Pacific storm sweeps east.

Forecasters said up to two inches of rain could fall in the Inland Empire, with high temperatures peaking in the 50s and lows dropping to around 40 degrees.

Snow levels could lower below 2,000 feet by Sunday, forecasters said.

"By the time the storm ends on Monday, several inches of snowfall are possible along the foothills, high deserts and valley locations between 2,000 and 3,000 feet," according to an NWS statement.

Locally, precipitation for the winter season is way below normal. According to NWS data, the average rainfall for the period beginning Jan. 1 and ending March 12 in Riverside is 7.37 inches, but the local area has recorded barely an inch so far this year.
