PHOTO: Wayward Hot Air Balloon Spotted Over I-215

Hot air balloon likely goes off course, distracting drivers on Interstate 215.

This photo of a wayward hot air balloon seen floating Wednesday morning over Interstate 215 just north of Scott Road in Menifee was submitted by Patch reader John Seed.

An art professor at Mt. San Jacinto College, Seed told Patch he snapped the photo at 9:08 a.m. Wednesday.

"It was safely hauled to a landing by some handlers just as I got off the freeway, but was a distraction for motorists on both sides of the 215," Seed told Patch.

"Hot air balloon likely goes off course"? A balloon is a "bubble in the wind" with no steering mechanism, so it is more likely the landing site, while "unusual" was planned by the pilot far in advance, based on the wind directions available.
