Patch Picks: Five Summer Camps for Kids

From Astrocamp to surf camp, find one to suit your child and your wallet.

Summer camp holds fond memories, and now it's time to help your children build those memories of their own. Here are this week's Patch Picks--ideas for summer camps that will peak your child's interest, help them get in shape and mold their talents. We've selected some overnight camps throughout Southern California, as well as some day camps offered in the area.

1.) Nestled in the cool pines less than an hour from Murrieta,  Idyllwild Arts Academy and & Summer Program offers many programs to choose from for your budding artist--from musical theatre to filmmaking. This camp was home to American Idol contestants Casey Abrams and Julie Zorilla in 2009. Check out their website for a full list of programs, pricing and dates.

2.) YMCA Overnight Camps--San Diego include a surf camp, a horseback riding camp and a mountains adventure camp. All are overnight, with sessions lasting throughout the summer. Find out more on their website by clicking the link above.
