Murrieta Unemployment Rate Nearly 5 Percentage Points Lower Than County Average
Murrieta fell below the county average unemployment rate in January with 9.5 percent (not seasonally adjusted).
According to a Labor Department report issued March 18, the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metro area took the title of “highest unemployment rate in the nation” in January. Its unemployment rate of 14.2 percent was highest among cities with populations of 1 million or more. The second highest was Las Vegas, with 13.7 percent unemployment.
Riverside County hit 14.3 percent unemployment (not seasonally adjusted) in January (see attached).

In January, the neighboring cities of Canyon Lake, Temecula, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar also saw unemployment rates below the county average, with 8.9 percent, 9.8 percent, 13.9 percent, and 12.6 percent, respectively (not seasonally adjusted).
Cities with the lowest unemployment across Riverside County include the desert cites of Indian Wells at 5.1 percent, Bermuda Dunes at 6.7 percent, and La Quinta at 7.6 percent, respectively (not seasonally adjusted).

The Riverside County city with the highest non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in January was Cabazon, with 33.8 percent.
