Officers screened nearly 500 cars in Murrieta's DUI checkpoint Saturday.

One motorist was arrested for drunken driving during a sobriety checkpoint in Murrieta, a police sergeant said today.

Murrieta Police officers began their operation at 8 p.m. Saturday on Jefferson Avenue north of Guava Street and ended it today at 2:05 a.m.

A total of 518 vehicles passed through the checkpoint but 473 of them were screened, Murrieta police Sgt. Jim Gruwell said.

Twenty-four drivers were directed to a secondary area where officers did a further check on them. Five motorists were cited for driving with a suspended license but one was arrested for drunken driving, Gruwell said.
