Library's Chinese Language Series Designed for Moms, Tots

Moms and children 3 to 6 years old can immerse themselves in Chinese language and culture through a series of five activities beginning Jan. 24.

The Murrieta Public Library is hosting a series of free mommy and me activities designed to introduce children 3 to 6 years old to Chinese language and culture through formal lessons, art, music and dance.

The classes—offered in conjunction with the Murrieta Chinese Language and Cultural Academy and Triwon Global—will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Jan. 24 and again on Feb. 28, March 27, April 24 and May 29, in the Library's Community Room.

"This is great timing with the Murrieta City Council considering forming a sister-city partnership with Shaoxing County in the Chinese province of Zhejiang," said Librarian Allison Eagans, in a news release.

"We are so excited to give our preschoolers a chance to learn about such a diverse and rich culture. My hope is that parents have the desire to give their children the gift of bilingualism. It is so much easier for young children to pick up a second language—they seem to do so almost effortlessly," Eagans said.

"As the director of the Chinese Language and Cultural Academy, Alice Ren is the perfect instructor for this program.”
