High Temps Prompt Flex Alert

SCE asked everyone to reduce electricity use during the peak hours of noon to 6 p.m.

With high temperatures expected across Southern California, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has declared a Flex Alert for today, according to Southern California Edison.

SCE asked everyone to reduce electricity use during the peak hours of noon to 6 p.m.

The temperature in Murrieta was forecast to reach 102 degrees Tuesday, and Riverside County as a whole remained on a heat warning issued by the Department of Public Health.

SCE offered these ways residents and businesses can help during the Flex Alert:

  • Set your A/C or thermostat at 78° or above
  • Use fans to help keep cool
  • Turn off computers, equipment, and appliances that are not absolutely necessary
  • Shut off lights when you leave a room
  • Avoid using evaporative coolers or humidifiers when A/C is running
  • Postpone using your major appliances until after 6 p.m.
  • Close the blinds, drapes, or shutters to keep out the sun and heat
  • At work, shift power-intensive processes to off-peak times
