Ebert Returns to Murrieta Valley as Head Girls' Soccer Coach

Shane Ebert left Murrieta Valley for a stint as the head boys soccer coach at Murrieta Mesa. Now he returns to MV as the head girls coach.

Murrieta Valley High School announced Wednesday it has a new head girls soccer coach.

Shane Ebert will lead the Nighthawk girls' soccer team after spending last year as the head coach for the Murrieta Mesa High School boys' soccer program, according to a news release.

Coach Ebert is not a stranger to the MV campus. He served as the varsity assistant for the Murrieta Valley girls’ soccer program for the 1999-2000 season and then became the head coach for the Murrieta Valley girls’ JV team from 2000 until 2012, earning five league titles.

In 2012, Coach Ebert took over a Murrieta Mesa boys' team that had been winless in its prior two varsity seasons. Last year, the Murrieta Mesa program not only earned its first two wins but it also earned its first tie and competed in a very tough Southwestern League.

Ebert will teach history at Murrieta Valley.

He envisions bringing all three levels of women’s soccer: Frosh-Soph, Junior Varsity, and Varsity into a cohesive program.

“Soccer is a beautiful game; I want the players to enjoy it while doing their very best. If we can do that, we will be successful," said Ebert, who was a multi-sport athlete in high school.

Ebert began coaching while he was in college and has not been able to keep away from it ever since, he said.

Murrieta Valley Athletic Director Darin Mott welcomed Ebert back to campus.

“We are extremely excited to announce Shane Ebert as our Head Girls Soccer Coach," Mott stated. "Shane brings passion and commitment to this position. He builds solid connections with kids, parents and staff. I was really impressed with his plan and vision for the entire program and the direction that he wants to take it. I am looking forward to working with him and his staff.”

Incoming Principal Eric Mooney added his excitement over the news.

“Shane is a very impressive young man, very passionate about coaching soccer and his career,” Mooney stated. “He brings with him valuable knowledge and experiences. I feel we are very fortunate to have Shane join our coaching staff and look forward to working with him. I believe he will be extremely successful at MVHS.”

It was not immediately clear Wednesday why the former head girls soccer coach at Murrieta Valley, Harry Hutcheson, would no longer be serving in the position.
