Census Counts Show Murrieta's Population Grows 134 Percent Over Past Decade

Murrieta's population edges past Temecula.

Figures released Tuesday from the 2010 Census show that Murrieta's population grew 133.6 percent over the decade from 2000 to 2010.

Overall, the city's population is 103,466, an increase of 59,184 residents compared with 2000, when there were 44,282 residents.

Murrieta Mayor Randon Lane attributes that growth to what Murrieta has to offer those looking for a place to raise their family.

"It is not surprising we have seen this growth. This is where people want to live. It has everything people are lookng for. We have the best schools, we are one of the safest cities in the U.S., we are centrally located and you can still afford to buy a house here," Lane said.
