5 Things to Know in Murrieta Oct. 27

Today is the last day to turn in applications to participate in Murrieta's Veterans Day parade.

1. There is a red flag warning for high winds today, according to the National Weather Service. Otherwise, today will be sunny with a high near 77. Tonight expect clear skies with a low around 48.

2. The  is hosting its ninth annual Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11 and applications are due today by 4 p.m. In lieu of an entry fee, the city requests a voluntary donation of $25 per group. The parade will travel through Historic Downtown Murrieta and end at Town Square Park for the unveiling of the Korean War Wall at the Veterans Memorial. 3. Here's what's for lunch today at elementary schools in Murrieta Valley Unified School District: hamburger and SunChips. Lunches are served with a fresh fruit/salad bar and a choice of juice or milk. Lunches average about 658 calories and 16.29 percent fat. To see middle and high school menus, click here.

4. Head to for a night of jazz. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the VMHS Vocal Jazz and RCCerious will perform kick back, jazzy tunes. Admission is $5, with special treats available from Coldstone Creamery.

TRAFFIC ADVISORIES: For tonight, closures are as follows:

INTERSTATE 215: Lane closures are scheduled for Interstate 215 between Clinton Keith and Scott roads. The northbound and southbound number one lanes will experience intermittent closures between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. due to roadway excavation.

CALIFORNIA OAKS ROAD/KALMIA STREET at Interstate 15 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. tonight through Oct. 28. The closures are due to construction on the freeway bridge, as well as road and ramp improvements.
