UPDATE: 2 Earthquakes Reported SE of Murrieta

A quake strikes southeast of Murrieta late Thursday, followed by a second one.

UPDATE 1 a.m. March 30: A second quake registering a 2.9 magnitude struck the same epicenter on Palomar Mountain at 12:38 a.m. Friday, USGS reported.

This was about an hour and 30 minutes after the initial quake.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 shook about 30 miles southeast of Murrieta late Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The temblor struck at 11:09 p.m. four miles south/southwest of Palomar Mountain Observatory, 20 miles southeast of Temecula and 17 miles northeast of Escondido.

The depth measured seven miles below the surface.

It was felt in Murrieta, Temecula, Lake Elsinore and parts of San Diego County, according to responses entered on the USGS website.
