Murrieta's Next 20 Years

What could Murrieta look like in 20 years if we make good choices?

The city of Murrieta has turned 20 years old. During the first 20 years we figured out how to work together, distinguishing ourselves on the national stage. The result is a city with an exceptional quality of life that is poised to realize even greater goals. As a city, we can continue toward a positive and prosperous future, or not. Either result will be based on our choices. I am hoping for, and working toward the best. As long as Murrieta makes good choices, I predict that in 20 years Murrieta will...

 ...have about 135,000 residents.

...have the largest amount of open space and trails per capita of any city in the region.

...be on the leading edge of technology resulting in the creation of hundreds of businesses many of whose employees are able to operate out of home offices.

...enjoy the benefits of top-of-the-scale retail and dining, the Golden Triangle having provided the synergistic spark well over a decade before.

...be the home of the arts, housing a world class state-of-the-art Performing Arts Theater as well as the Murrieta Bowl at Town Square where A-list symphonies, operas, plays and bands perform including our own Murrieta Symphony Orchestra.

...be the home to a four-year university.

...be a city where our children and grandchildren can choose to live, get their entire (world class) education and then stay to work without having to leave the region

...be the Silicon Valley of the South, specializing in research and development in the fields of Healthcare, Bio/Med, Water and Alternative Fuels.

...be utilizing the advances in water technology discovered in Murrieta to lower everyone's cost of water.

...be the destination of choice for those seeking the best of medical care in our 5 world class teaching/research hospitals, including...

...sports therapy facilities frequented by both elite and amateur athletes from all over the world.

...continue to be the safest city in which to live in the region.

...continue to partner with our Twin City to the south, Temecula, to bring to bear the influence necessary to protect and promote our residents' best interests.

...be the home of some of the largest, most dynamic churches in California.

...have completed the Murrieta Creek flood control project, providing protection from floods as well as recreational opportunities.

...have a thriving, pedestrian friendly Historic Downtown that draws from a regional base of customers and creates its own tourism destination.

...have local representation, Murrieta residents, in Congress, the State Assembly, the State Senate and at least one statewide office.

...provide for the protection of endangered species while at the same time respecting individual property rights.

...have finished all of its major infrastructure development providing for the smooth flow of traffic though out the region, north to south or east to west.

...still be waiting for High Speed Rail to materialize.

When I consider the potential for Murrieta, this is what I 'see.' The bottom line is that Murrieta is uniquely set so that each of these goals and so much more is possible. The only way we won't achieve them is if we don't try. The stage is set. I look forward to looking back to see how we did.
