Our beautiful Merlot grapes are ready for picking!
Our Vineyard in the mountains west of Murrieta is a perfect growing area for our hearty red wine grapes. The environment is similar to the mountains around Napa Valley – Really! We have course, rocky granite soil. We have a very hot afternoon last 4-6 hours, followed by cool evenings & mornings. Perfect growing conditions!
Our grapes have high levels of tannins meaning the wines will age for many years. Adding a little extra acid at the beginning of fermentation will help the structure.
Merlot
As of this morning (Friday, August 23, 2013) the Brix of the uppers rows of the Merlot is at 26. Seeds are brown. The coyotes & bees are just starting to feed on the grapes. That all means it's time to pick! The picking window will last about two weeks, especially the lower rows. However, if you are thinking about purchasing the grapes, I would pick this weekend. I will keep the grapes well hydrated for the next two weeks so if you can't make it out on this weekend they should still be good for awhile.
Petit Verdot
I also have Petit Verdot grapes which should be ready in 3 weeks or so depending on weather.

Price is $1.00 per pound, you pick. (When you pick, you can select the best grapes!) Discounts for larger quantities.
